Friday's Good

Because Sunday's Coming

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”

John 3:16

Good Friday? Really, what’s so “good” about it? I am going to be straight up honest right now, even as a Christian and especially as a mom, I used to wonder, what on earth is so good about the Friday that Jesus was crucified? I understand the critical, most important salvation piece of it all, but why call it “Good Friday?” From my mere human perspective it should be called black Friday.

I’ve watched all the movie reenactments of that day, and I am literally and eternally grateful for Christ’s obedience, even and especially unto death so that we might have eternal life. But it’s difficult for me to think of it as good. That is, until I remember that Sunday is coming. There would be no salvation without Good Friday.

Harsh truth. We are ALL sinners, and our sins create such a deep and wide chasm between us and God that there is nothing we can do to bridge that gap. Eternal death is what we all deserve and would get, but because of Good Friday, we have Resurrection Sunday. Good Friday was required so we could have Resurrection Sunday and the opportunity for salvation.

Yes, Friday’s Good Because Sunday’s Coming.

Here’s what Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday means in my life, and you can have it too.

1.     Forgiveness-ALL My Sins Washed Away By His Blood

2.    Grace Freely Given-Undeserved Favor

3.    Mercy Undeserved-I Don’t get what I deserve. The Wages of Sin would be death.

4.    Freedom from Death Because He Overcame the Grave-Heaven will one day be my Home

5.    Hope in all Circumstances-No Matter What, I am Confident God will Take Care of Me

6.    Power of Christ in Me-The Same Power That Rose Jesus From The Grave Lives in Those Who Accept Jesus as Their Lord & Savior

7.    Peace that can Only Come from Christ in Me-Transcends ALL Circumstances

8.    Joy that Overpowers all Circumstances-Even in Our Trials

9.    The Gift of The Holy Spirit Who Gives us wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord

Friday’s Good because God loves us so much that He did not want us to be separated from Him forever. He wanted us to have a way to spend eternity with Him, but we are too sinful to get there on our own. Friday’s Good because God made a way, he bridged that gap that separates us from Him through Jesus’ death on the cross.

I understand, Friday’s Good Because Sunday’s Coming. Jesus died on that cross on Good Friday, and Saturday was silent, even His disciples feared it was all for nothing, but then Sunday came.
